Wallingford, Conn. (Feb 26th, 2018) – Frank DiCristina, Site Manager at allnex in Wallingford, recently announced three exciting family programs set for the second annual Environmental Speaker Series. Each program will be hosted at the allnex Community Room at HUBCAP Wallingford. A light dinner will be offered at 6 p.m. followed by the presentation from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The programs are free and pre-registration is suggested.

“The focus of our workshops is to engage with community members on relevant environmental topics while inspiring attendees to reduce their environmental footprint,” DiCristina said. “We are looking forward to continued conversation on how we can co-exist with our natural habitats while helping to protect and preserve them.”

  • The first program, Birds of Prey, scheduled for Wed., March 14th, will play host to live birds of prey including a hawk, falcon and two species of owls. Expert rehabilitators from Killingworth-based A Place Called Hope will educate attendees about habitat protection for birds and care for the environment. To register, visit:
  • The second program, Scales & Tails, which will be held on Wed., April 4th, will encourage attendees to meet and touch a variety of reptiles including a box turtle and corn snake. Reptiles will be visiting from Westport’s Earthplace, a non-profit that envisions a sustainable community where conscious regard for the natural world guides individual actions.
  • The final program, co-sponsored by the Wallingford Conservation Commission, will be held on Wed., May 9th and will feature esteemed Wildlife Ecologist Laura Simon who appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show to help Ellen resolve a perplexing skunk problem.  In the program, There’s a Raccoon in my Chimney! … and Other Unexpected Wildlife Problems, Simon will discuss how to resolve wildlife dilemmas, such as when there’s a raccoon family living in your chimney, a skunk who just sprayed your dog, a baby bird fallen from a nest, or a coyote who appears all too comfortable in your yard.  Simon will help you understand the animals’ behaviors and how to work with them so a peaceful co-existence is possible.
