Suzhou, China, October 24, 2018 – allnex, the leading global supplier of coating resins and additives, welcomed a delegation organized in collaboration with the Research Institute for Environmental Innovation (Suzhou), Tsinghua University (RIET) and the Suzhou Environmental Protection Bureau in a training program on ecological and environmental protection at its Suzhou site. The delegation, comprising Zeng Hongying, head of Training Section of the Center for Environmental Education and Communications (CEEC) of Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Dong Lihu, Dean of RIET, and 45 heads of prefecture-level environmental protection bureaus (EPB) from 26 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), learned about the RTO equipment operation and emission reduction results of the factory, and had an in-depth exchange on energy saving and emission reduction with the leaders of allnex.

In 2017, allnex Suzhou site introduced the environmental protection concept of "one factory with one policy" as part of the site’s continuous improvements under its ISO14001:2015 environmental management system.  So far, it has invested significantly in upgrading its VOC treatment system, including QC Lab exhaust absorption system (activated carbon tank), workshop exhaust treatment system (RTO), and exhaust balancing system for tank area and tanker unloading (under construction). As a result, its annual VOC emissions have been reduced from 20.5 MT to 0.5 MT.

With regard to VOC treatment in Suzhou, the site has always been committed to advanced environmental management, and working together with local governments to deal with environmental problems. Hence, it was selected by Suzhou EPB and RIET as one of the factories for the training program. With this program, the Suzhou EPB intended to build the allnex Suzhou site into an environmental star locally and beyond.

“Sustainable development has long been an important pillar in our core strategy. allnex makes great efforts and investments to reduce air emmissions, and liquid & solid wastes to improve the environment in China,” said Lai Weiyoung, President of allnex Greater China and Regional Business Director. “In the past seven years, energy consumption in production has fallen by about 16% since 2010, with the goal of continuously reducing energy consumption. allnex's factories around the world have their own energy-saving practices. I am glad that the bureaus leaders and experts from across the country spoke highly of the event and recognized our environmental efforts. We will spare no efforts in achieving more success in waste treatment and ecological protection.”

The training program, co-hosted by RIET and Suzhou EPB, aimed at exploring innovative practices in ecological and environmental protection through diverse approaches including a case study, experience exchange, field trips, ERP simulation games, seminars and on-site training. Meanwhile, it also allowed Suzhou to share its successful experience in VOC treatment with other cities.
