Formulate ultra-low VOC high solids solventborne and water-based architectural paints with new universal grinding medium from Allnex

ADDITOL® XW 6565 is a universal, glycol-free, polymeric multifunctional grinding medium that has been specially developed for the production of low-VOC point-of-sale (POS) and in-plant colorants.

Brussels, June 20, 2013 –– Using the new universal ADDITOL® XW 6565 grinding medium from Allnex, manufacturers of water-based and solventborne architectural paints can develop high-performance tinted formulations while increasing process flexibility and reducing costs.

ADDITOL® XW 6565 is a universal, glycol-free, polymeric multifunctional grinding medium that has been specially developed for the production of low-VOC point-of-sale (POS) and in-plant colorants. It shows optimized pigment loading, outstanding weather durability, and excellent color performance. ADDITOL® XW 6565 is also Eco-label compliant for outdoor and indoor paint varnishes (2009/543/EC) (2009/544/EC).

Importantly, ADDITOL® XW 6565 allows the dispersion and stabilization of pigments without negatively influencing the final paint properties, and can be used in all direct grinding or slurry processes. It is modified with strong anchoring groups and has many advantages, such as a selective drying capacity, crosslinking ability, anti-settling and anti-floating effects, and compatibility with solventborne and water-based systems. Air dry paints formulated with ADDITOL® XW 6565 also benefit from improved humidity and blocking resistance.

The use of color pastes for paint formulation reduces manufacturing costs. Time-consuming processes, such as the mixing of small batches and expensive cleaning operations, are eliminated, and the number of raw materials, machinery occupancy, and space requirements can be reduced.

Grinding Media from Allnex are polymeric multifunctional additives developed to improve color paste quality and increase process flexibility vs. conventional grinding methods and standard dispersing additives.
