Bisphenol A Free Resin Options for Inks and Overprint Varnishes
Bisphenol A (BPA) containing oligomers e.g. epoxy acrylate are generally used inks and overprint varnishes (OPVs) for printing and packaging applications. They offer excellent chemical resistance, high reactivity and good surface hardness. However, people are concerned about potential adverse impact of BPA on consumer health and safety and want to eliminate their usage in food packaging. In order to meet customer needs and comply with the regulations, BPA-free materials will be discussed. These alternative materials must not only meet food packaging requirements, but also maintain the performance properties of the inks or OPVs, and provide economics in use.The presentation will review the BPA free resin options that are available to the ink or OPV formulators.
