Over Print Varnishes (OPVs) Cured by LED
Insufficient surface cure is a known issue for thin coatings cured by UVA LED for printing applications. Because of thin coating thickness (2~3 µm) and low viscosity, over print varnishes (OPVs) usually encounter poor surface quality when cure by UV LED. To overcome this challenge, we studied various classes of photoinitiators (PIs) with and without amine synergists in 100% solid OPVs and compared their cure response with 395 nm and 365 nm LED lamps. Additionally, we evaluate UVA alone and in combination with UVC LEDas possible solution to the challenges of surface cure for UV LED cure systems.
