The ignition key that starts the engine of in uv curing technology is photoinitiator. Photoinitiators absorb UV light and convert this light energy into free radicals, which subsequently initiate polymerization of monomers and oligomers into a high performance coating or adhesive. Choosing the appropriate initiator for a UV resin and lamp system must take into account many different chemical properties of these molecules. In this talk we will discuss how photoinitiators work, what factors must be considered when choosing one, and highlight allnex’s unique offerings in the field.

Is UV/EB Sustainable?

UV/EB curing is often considered green technology because of it's low VOC and low energy cure profile. In this presentation, we will explore UV as a sustainable solution and the ability UV technology to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Over Print Varnishes (OPVs) Cured by LED

Insufficient surface cure is a known issue for thin coatings cured by UVA LED for printing applications. Because of thin coating thickness (2~3 µm) and low viscosity, over print varnishes (OPVs) usually encounter poor surface quality when cure by UV LED. To overcome this challenge, we studied various classes of photoinitiators (PIs) with and without amine synergists in 100% solid OPVs and compared their cure response with 395 nm and 365 nm LED lamps. Additionally, we evaluate UVA alone and in combination with UVC LEDas possible solution to the challenges of surface cure for UV LED cure systems.
