Update: explosion and fire at allnex manufacturing plant in East St.Louis, IL

On July 10, 2022, at approximately 10:00 p.m., there was an explosion in a catalyst charging tank containing peroxide at the allnex manufacturing site in East St. Louis, Illinois.
 
Two employees sustained injuries and were immediately taken to the hospital for further treatment. One employee was discharged from the hospital the same day. The other employee was admitted to the hospital with burns. The management team of the plant contacted the employee’s family to offer support and assistance.
 
The explosion caused a localized fire which was extinguished by the fire department. The roof of the production building and the structures surrounding the catalyst tank were damaged. The site was secured and production is halted until further notice.
 
The causes and consequences of the incident are under further investigation and follow-up.
