"We continue to see an important growth in the waterborne UV market, driven by both performance and the green profile of the technology." Cédric D'Hulst, Global Marketing Manager Radcure (Industrial Coatings)

DROGENBOS, Belgium (November 28, 2019) – allnex, a global leader in energy-curable technology for industrial, graphics, consumer electronics, plastics and special purpose coatings and inks, today announced the launch of its new UCECOAT® 7999 developed for industrial wood applications.

A significant contribution to allnex’s sustainable portfolio and proof of its longstanding commitment to the development of greener solutions, UCECOAT® 7999 is a Tin-free and APEO-free UV-curable polyurethane dispersion with a bio-based carbon content of minimum 20% (ASTM D 6866) for clear and white formulations aimed at a wide range of industrial wood applications.

Through the use of bio-based materials, UCECOAT 7999 is able to contribute to a better environment by significantly and consistently reducing its material carbon footprint. Additional sustainability benefits of this product, such as lower VOC emissions and energy consumption, are imparted by it being a UV-curable waterborne system. This allows it to have a very concrete, measurable, and positive impact on the planet.

Other key benefits and features of UCECOAT® 7999 include:

  • Immediate high hardness after cure – no oxidative drying
  • Superior performance in clear and white formulations
  • Low minimum film formation temperature – no cosolvent
  • High mechanical and chemical resistance after cure
  • Good colloidal stability and robust formulation/application

Cédric D’Hulst, Global Marketing Manager Industrial Coatings (Radcure) at allnex commented: “We continue to see an important growth in the waterborne UV market, driven by both performance and the green profile of the technology. Increasing awareness on sustainability is redefining the industrial landscape and will ultimately lead to radical changes in the way we coat things. By adding a bio-based WBUV product to our range, we’re driving that change, through the reduction of the material’s carbon footprint.”

Michel Tielemans, Associate Research Fellow Radcure, added: “We are the actors of an announced industrial revolution that will place the environment as a center point of innovation. Green chemistry is an important element of this transition and UCECOAT 7999 brings us one step closer to a greener future.”
